What an answer looks like

Plain question. Cited answer.

Can I carry a handgun for self-defense while archery elk hunting?

Utah Admin Code R657-5-11(3) provides that a hunter operating under an archery-only permit may possess a sidearm for personal protection in the field, as long as the sidearm isn't used to take the animal covered by the archery permit. Using a firearm to take big game during an archery-only season is prohibited under that section, read together with Utah Code 23A-5-301.
